If you've ever seen how a lens is made, you'll have a better understanding of where your money is going. The incredible care and precision put into building a quality lens is truly mind-blowing. Still though we rarely get excited about the MSRP of a new lens, but I mean come on, when you start simulating variable refraction rates using sub wavelength nano-structures to reduce flaring??? That's money well spent.
I think it's safe to say that Canon is still the leader in lenses. And after having produced over 100,000,000 EF lenses since 1987, it's a title well earned.
